Oranjezicht Higgovale Neighbourhood Watch
As a result of the considerable increase in crime affecting our neighbourhood, a group of dedicated residents have spent the last few months devising an appropriate response. We have modelled our strategy on the very successful Tamboerskloof and Hout Bay Neighbourhood Watch initiatives established in 2005, and discussions with various stakeholders.
The result is that Oranjezicht Higgovale Neighbourhood Watch (OH WATCH) has been set up in consultation with the South African Police Services (SAPS) and the Cape Town Community Police Forum (CPF)
To ensure effective management and excellent results we have divided the area into 6 smaller blocks (sectors). Each block has its own zone leader and we work together to enhance OH WATCH. Just click here or on OH MAP above to see which block you fall under.

The main objective of OH WATCH is to eradicate crime in our area and prevent the problem from increasing. We want to be able to take back our sense of security and our streets. It enables a platform to ensure effective and quick responses to criminal activity and ensures that all members of the community are empowered with information via well developed communication channels.
We aim to achieve this by introducing:
- Community neighbourhood patrols/walks
- Further development of our existing 2-way radio network – this ensures direct communication between the community, SAPS, possibly armed response companies etc.
- A system of logging suspicious activity (cars and people)
- Collecting information on criminal activity that enables analysis. As a result we can ensure targeted action by SAPS.
OH WATCH needs all types of members of the community to be involved – there are no criteria as we can all do our bit. So if you are a home owner, tenant, dog walker, retiree, worker, mother or work from home; we would welcome your involvement.
We are here to be the EYES and EARS of the police! We are not taking over the work that they should be doing but we can do an immense amount to ensure that SAPS can use their resources to maximum efficiency.
