How to view incidents on a Camps Bay Map?

All crime and council related incidents can now be viewed on a Google Map showing Camps Bay street map (or satellite view) with plotted information on where incidents happened.

Simply click on either:

  • Top menu Incidents - Incident Map
  • Right hand side Toolbox menu - Incident Map
  • Underneath this article the link
  • Or bookmark this URL http://www.campsbaywatch.org/en/citizenwatch/

Please note that you must be logged in with your username and password in order to see most of the incidents which is required for privacy and information security.

Once on the page, one can click on the red (crime) or blue (council) markers which will then open in a popup further incident related information.

In case you have any feedback, please post that as comment on this article.

Answers to Darren - Thanks for the comments. Moving it to homepage is a good idea, however the load times (relevant for SEO and some of the dial up users reading the homepage feed) might be a disadvantage.
With regards to the number of incidents, you can already filter them - scroll down and limit the items on the page which determines the number of incidents shown on map. The sort order by date descending is coming with a CMS core update on Sunday. Further filtering will be also done via a search similar to the other pages, but thanks for the idea.
Adding an incident - use the red Report Incident button top right hand corner after logging in. Images are already part of that - in fact if you find the one where you reported ADT shredded paper you will see the image being loaded :-).

Fantastic overview - This is fantastic and gives a great user friendly overview of the crime in CB. It might be nice to have on the home page.

One think that might become an issue is that as more and more minor and major incidents make it onto the map it might be come too cluttered. It might be nice to add some kind of filtering on the type of incidents, the road, time or some other way to reduce the number of pins on the map.

Where is this data coming from? Is it from CBW incident reports or SAPS? How would one get an incident on the map? What is required to get a image added with incident?
