BKM Candle Light Vigil

BKM Candle Light Vigil

The 13th of April 2010 is the 2 year anniversary of the murder of Jane van Zyl who was gunned down in her driveway in Bergvliet. As a gesture to remembering her spirit and those many others who have lost their lives to crime – please join us from 6:30pm to 7pm at the Ladies Mile Circle to show our community solidarity and hold a silent candle light vigil protest.

Please bring a candle/torch/lantern with you and show the rest of the country that together we truly can make a difference.

“ It only takes one candle to bring light into a dark room – imagine if each one of us is holding a candle………….”

PRESS RELEASE
CANDLE LIGHT VIGIL

The BKM Neighbourhood watch will be coordinating a candlelight vigil on Tuesday 13 April from 6.30 – 7.00 pm. Local residents will be congregating on Firgrove and Ladies Mile Roads with the central point being the Ladies Mile Circle. All residents are urged to voice their abhorrence of crime and stand together in the candlelight vigil as a demonstration of unity in their demand for a crime-free suburb and country. Residents are encouraged to bring lanterns, candles or torches, joining each other to form a symbol of peace.

This candle light vigil coincides with the anniversary of the date of the murder 2 years ago, of Jane van Zyl, a BKM resident. This vigil is to commemorate not only the wonderful Jane, but also all other persons murdered and those who have been victims of crime throughout our beautiful land. 5,000 homes in the BKM area will be receiving a pamphlet with a symbolic candle one week prior to the date. Children at local schools and businesses in the area will be receiving pamphlets outlining the purpose of the vigil.

This event will be receiving much coverage in the press, on TV and radio. There will be an unprecedented presence of SAPS, Metro, EMT and other law enforcement agencies and related role players including private security service providers.

BKM encourages all other neighbourhood watches to follow suit !

Coordinate a similar candlelight vigil in your suburb – to remember those that have lost their lives to crime - as a statement of unity by residents - as an act of hope.
